Community outreach

Through our Colour of Caring Community program, we direct our resources toward the following pillars:

  • Diversity and inclusion: We are committed to fostering a community where every individual feels accepted, valued and safe. We work to address barriers to wellness for underrepresented groups, including those in rural and remote regions of the province, ensuring all Manitobans have equitable opportunities for health. Manitoba Blue cross defines this commitment through the principle of inclusivity: providing support that values and represents the diverse communities we serve.
  • Health and wellness: We support initiatives that address the multi-dimensional needs of Manitobans, helping them lead balanced and meaningful lives. Rather than focusing solely on physical health, Manitoba Blue Cross defines wellness through a holistic lens that considers the whole mind and body.
  • Community support fund: We enhance the quality of life within communities throughout Manitoba by providing essential funding for a wide range of social, recreational and cultural programs. This includes youth development initiatives such as camps and programs for children, local community team sports, arts and cultural programming, as well as community-led events that generate awareness and resources for local non-profits.

Manitoba Blue Cross brings this commitment to life through a multi-faceted approach, including strategic sponsorships and partnerships, charitable donations and the dedicated volunteer participation of our employees. By providing promotional merchandise and direct financial aid to registered Manitoba charities, we strive to empower local organizations to do what they do best: care for Manitobans.

We are also the primary supporter of the Manitoba Medical Service Foundation.

How we give back

Together with the Canadian Association of Blue Cross plans, we are a proud partner of the Make -A-Wish Foundation of Canada. This valuable organization arranges wish trips for children who have been diagnosed with a serious, life-threatening illness. As supporters of this charity, we provide premium-free travel coverage to Manitoba children and their families any time a travel wish is granted.

We are also a dedicated naming-rights partner of STARS and their Winnipeg base, having provided a generous $3 million investment in support of their critical mission operations across Manitoba. STARS delivers lifesaving care to individuals in their most vulnerable moments, and we are honoured to support the essential services they provide to communities throughout the province.

Our support extends to a wide range of other organizations and events, including, but not limited to:

  • Agape Table
  • Harvest Manitoba
  • Manitoba Possible
  • Motorcycle Ride for Dad
  • Pink Ribbon Golf Classic for Hope
  • Pride Winnipeg
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace
  • United Way Winnipeg
  • Victoria Hospital Foundation
  • Winnipeg Goldeyes

Employee contributions

Part of being a good corporate citizen is encouraging our employees to also give back. The team at Manitoba Blue Cross supports our communities through donations and event participation.

Our employees:

  • lead one of the most successful United Way campaigns in Winnipeg. With a corporate match to employees’ donations, we contribute approximately $100,000 each year.
  • raise money through our community giving program, where employees contribute money biweekly to support the local charities of their choice.
  • donate blood to Canadian Blood Services. As a registered member of the Partners for Life program, Manitoba Blue Cross schedules shuttles to the blood donor clinic throughout the year.
  • collect clothing and personal care items to donate to local resource centres and food and toys for the Christmas Cheer Board.
  • participate in numerous community causes, including the Riverview Health Centre Foundation’s Cycle on Life, Easter Seals' Drop Zone, Main Street Project’s Socktober and Harvest Manitoba’s Grow-a-Row.
